About Us

In 1947, Bill and Terry Moore moved from Salina, Kansas to Shawnee.  Soon after the move, they purchased a lumber planer and moulder.  They bought rough lumber from several of the lumber mills in the area and milled it to smooth boards, paneling, siding, and moulding.  They heated the house with the wood chips from the planing operation.

In 1948, the property now known as Moore-Dale became available so they purchased it.  The planning operation was moved to an old shed at the far south end of the property.  As business expanded, the Moore’s decided to buy property in Bailey and build a new store. The original building makes up part of the current store.  In 1958 they purchased the hardware inventory from Mr. Burgess of the Bailey Country Store and were in a new business. Bill Jr. joined the business in 1972.  As business grew, Bill Sr. and Bill Jr. purchased property across the street from the store from A.J. Messer.  Part of this was later sold for the U.S. Post Office.

Bill Jr. purchased the business from his parents in 1981.  As business grew, the lumber yard was expanded across the street, trucks and equipment were added, and services were expanded.  Moore Lumber proudly joined Ace Hardware in 2000.

Recently, Moore has added Battery Place, chip key cutting and programming, and Weathershield® Windows.  We are proud to have served the community for over 60 years and thank our loyal customers for their support.
